Greens are a Party for Labour in Saskatchewan
Greens are a party for Labour. Deeply embedded in our Core Green Values are the right for people to have safe workplaces, to be treated with dignity and to earn fair wages that keep up with the cost of living. Greens stand behind the same issues that unions stand behind, fighting to support workers’ rights for all.
Right now, in Saskatchewan, we are entering a true affordability crisis. In particular, the cost of groceries is so high that ensuring that people can afford to feed themselves at minimum nutritional standards is top priority. This Labour Day, we must ensure that families can afford to feed their children – and that kids aren’t going to school hungry.

Statement re: Saskatchewan group’s legal action to oppose government plan to extend coal burning
Dear fellow Green advocates,
I’m Sherry Olson, your Treasurer, and one of the applicants in the legal challenge against the extension of unabated coal power in Saskatchewan. The next court hearing is set for November 10 at 10 am in Saskatoon. Of course, anyone is welcome to join us in court. Unfortunately, government lawyers have filed an application to strike, a legal maneuver aimed at shutting down our case before it even reaches judicial review. This is a clear delay tactic, and every day that passes brings Saskatchewan closer to violating federal law that requires us to end the use of unabated coal. I don’t want that to happen!
We’ve been asked for decades to take personal actions, but we have to make these large systemic changes as a community as well. Climate change isn’t an on-off switch; it’s a dimmer switch – and thus, to me, this is a decision that matters. We know future people will face enormous challenges - financial, social, international conflicts, and a growing strain of natural disasters – just like we do now and worse. We’re choosing to face today’s challenges so that tomorrow’s challenges are not insurmountable. We can’t let ruining the future be easy!
We also must remember to support a just transition when the use of fossil fuel power production in Saskatchewan is ended. This will allow us to move towards a better future together.
Your support is appreciated as we fight for a healthier future. You can stay informed and engaged by visiting cpj.ca/saskatchewan-legal-action for updates. Together, let’s hold their feet to the fire!
Wear your Green, Stand with Justice
Saturday, September 20, 2025, from 2:00-3:30 pm
Join climate justice, migrant justice, economic justice, Indigenous rights, and anti-war protestors for the Draw the Line march and protest at the Vimy Memorial Bandstand, Spadina Crescent and 20th Street West in Saskatoon
Draw the Line is a cross-country Day of Action taking place on September 20th in communities across Canada to resist Prime Minister Mark Carney’s anti-migrant, anti-Indigenous, and fossil fuel-driven policies. The Day of Action coincides with a global week of action calling for climate and economic justice worldwide.
Draw the Line is a cross-sectoral effort initiated and co-convened by 350 Canada, Climate Action Network Canada (CAN-Rac), Migrant Rights Network, Seniors for Climate Action, Indigenous Climate Action, Sacred Earth Solar, World Beyond War Canada, and numerous other organizations from across Canada.
We are building a historic mobilization, uniting to rise to this moment and invite everyone who believes in justice and a livable future to join us.
We are drawing the line – For People. For Peace. For the Planet!
We refuse to stand by while the government and Canada’s richest corporations hoard wealth, fuel climate collapse, gut our public services, attack migrants, and exploit Indigenous lands.
We are working to build a cross-movement mobilization to demand:
- Put people over corporate profit. Fund our families and communities.
- Refuse ongoing colonialism. Uphold Indigenous Sovereignty.
- Stop blaming migrants. Demand full immigration status for all now!
- End the war machine. Stand for justice and peace.
- End the era of fossil fuels. Protect Mother Earth. We demand clean renewable energy—not dirty coal.
We’ll march together downtown, hear from speakers, listen to songs, and send a powerful message as a community: enough is enough—our future is worth fighting for.
Bring:
- Wear green or t-shirts with supportive messaging if you can
- Signs, drums, noisemakers – we will have some signs available.
- Active transportation methods are welcome to join the march
- Friends, family, and your climate justice spirit

Métis Nation-Saskatchewan declares state of emergency due to crisis of addiction, violence
"We are noticing the gaps within, you know, our systems, the hardships that our communities and our people are facing," Fullerton told host Sam Maciag on CBC Radio's Blue Sky. "We are well aware of the lack of cultural safe spaces for our people to come together and find healing and find treatment."
Fullerton said they have seen a spike in drug use, gang activity and violence in northern communities such as Île-à-la-Crosse, Pinehouse, Buffalo Narrows and La Ronge, where support is very limited.
Sask. Health Ministry issues overdose alert for Saskatoon
The Saskatchewan Ministry of Health issued an overdose alert for Saskatoon on Thursday after the fire department reported responding to 84 suspected overdose cases since Aug. 17.
Many of the cases required multiple doses of the overdose drug naloxone and hospitalization, the alert said.
The alert said that Prairie Harm Reduction detected carfentanil, a synthetic opioid that is up to 100 times more potent than fentanyl, in an Aug. 20 test, which may be linked to the increase in overdose cases and "multiple reported fatalities in the community." Prairie Harm Reduction is an organization that provides addictions treatment and hosts the city's only supervised consumption site.
“Premier, you’ve put the Moe in Smoek.”
Regina Leader Post - August 9, 2025 - While Columnist Cuthand navel gazes about the “causes” of the wildfires, Darrin Qualman points a finger at a more important question: Premier Moe’s unstinting commitment to Coal and Oil and his indifference to the climate.
‘Only 10% is left’: Saskatchewan wildfires devastate proposed Indigenous protected area
TheNarwal.ca - July 23, 2025 - Recent wildfires in northern Saskatchewan have wiped out 90 per cent of a proposed Indigenous Protected and Conserved Area, according to residents and workers. The damage includes areas of both cultural and ecological significance for the Métis community, including caribou habitat and harvesting areas.
Environmental groups launch legal campaign to stop Sask. coal plant extension
A group of citizens and climate advocacy groups have filed a court case to stop the Saskatchewan government from maintaining the province's three coal-fired power plants past 2030.
Citizens for Public Justice, the Saskatchewan Environmental Society, and three people from Saskatchewan and Manitoba are behind the lawsuit. Represented by Saskatchewan-based environmental lawyer Glenn Wright, they have filed an application for judicial review against the government.
