We need housing solutions to save lives now.

We need housing solutions to save lives now. Saskatchewan has some of the highest rates of people living unhoused, while also having some of the bitterest weather in the country. Saskatoon identified 1,931 people living on the streets in 2025 (and many people working to help those individuals say the actual number is much higher). Saskatoon’s homeless numbers are the same as the population of the entire town of Watrous; for me, it was worth driving to that community once more to really put this into a quantifiable amount of housing stock needed. Regina recorded 824 people living unhoused in 2024, which was nearly double the previous count there. To put this into perspective, that translates to 5 people out of every thousand residents in these communities living on the streets. This crisis has developed directly due to the SaskParty government’s failure to provide adequate social services to help those in need.

Saskatchewan health-care workers vote 99% in favour of job action: CUPE

Global News, Sept 15, 2026 - Members of Saskatchewan’s largest health care union voted 99 per cent in favour of job action after what it calls years of failed negotiations with the Saskatchewan Health Authority and provincial government.

More than 13,000 health-care workers in Saskatchewan cast ballots in the decisive vote, according to a news release shared by CUPE Local 5430. The union represents more than 14,000 employees who work in clerical, technical, nursing, support and plant operation roles.

The union’s members have been working without a contract with the Saskatchewan Health Authority (SHA) since their previous agreement expired in March of 2023.

‘More flexibility’: Saskatchewan wants ability to move workers in CUPE talks

CTV News - Sept 16, 2026  - Health Minister Jeremy Cockrill isn’t surprised so many healthcare workers are in favour of job action.

A day after dozens of Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) members rallied outside his office in North Battleford following a 99 percent strike mandate vote, Cockrill says a deal is closer than it may seem.

“Both parties agree it’s been too long, and this is where I think we have an opportunity,” Cockrill said.

“There has been progress that’s being made at the bargaining table, but these aren’t simple issues all the time, so you got to stay there, you got to stay focused.”

The AI Data Centre-Driven Privatization of SaskPower Is Underway. You Knew It Was Coming.

Our Sask - Tammy Roberts, Sept 20, 2026 - At the Canada Investment Summit in Toronto on Monday, Premier Scott Moe stood beside Bell Canada CEO Mirko Bibic and compared an AI data centre to the building of the Canadian Pacific Railway.

This just days after world-renowned, leading AI researcher quit his job at Anthropic because he feels AI could end humankind, echoing the words of many others in his field.

“It really is about literally everyone on the planet dying, like the last human drawing the last breath,” said Nate Soares, the president of the Machine Intelligence Research Institute (MIRI).

“People often don’t believe it when they say this, but I do think that is the most likely outcome,” said Soares.

New Meta Data Centre Could Cost Albertans $460 a Year

By David Climenhaga, The Tyee 02-Sep-2026 - “Oddly, Alberta media seem to have had very little to say about the new analysis by the Pembina Institute that the $13-billion artificial intelligence data centre planned by Meta Platforms Inc. in Sturgeon County could add from $270 to $460 a year to Albertans’ electricity bills once the hyperscale installation has powered up….”

Moe floats idea of two massive nuclear reactors in Saskatchewan

The Star Phoenix, Sept. 21, 2026 - Saskatchewan could potentially pursue one or two large-scale nuclear reactors. Ontario-based  Bruce Power Inc had previously conducted a feasibility study, published in 2008, for a nuclear power plant in Saskatchewan by 2020. It determined that a region in the northwest, nearby Lloydminster, North Battleford and Prince Albert, was the most viable location.

Alberta separatism isn’t just an Alberta problem. It’s a sign of a much deeper issue in Canadian politics.

Toronto Star, Sept 11, 2026 - “Alberta may be giving Canada an early view of a problem that extends well beyond provincial borders. The institutions through which democratic societies organize disagreement have become smaller, thinner and less representative than the electorates they aspire to govern.

Canada’s parties may still know how to win. But their failure to open up the electoral system and connect more purposefully with today’s voters is putting the country at risk.”

Canada’s Changing Climate Report 2026

Gov’t of Canada website, Sept 3, 2026 - Canada's Changing Climate Report 2026 says that Canada has already warmed by 2°C over the past 75 years. Since 1970, we’ve been warming nearly twice as fast as the global average, while the Canadian Arctic has been warming three times as fast.

The report also says Canada’s average temperature is expected to rise by about another 1°C over the next couple of decades. That means a lot more extremes.

With that level of warming, we can expect more dangerous heat, longer fire seasons, and more drought and flash flooding.

Carbon Capture and Storage is Not ‘Fetch’

The Energy Mix - Sept 21, 2026 - The tech isn’t ready. It’s a PR exercise for oil and gas infrastructure that needs to be phased out, and is headed into its long-term decline. We should all just stop trying to make CCS happen.
