2028 Election Platform and a message for the Sask Party

This month, we have two very exciting action items to draw your attention to!

Our AGM is on May 30; the info is also elsewhere in this month's Weaver. We are having a roundtable planning session on things you wish to see in the 2028 election platform! I’m very much looking forward to connecting personally with all of you. Feel welcome to phone or text me 1-306-561-8880 if you have any questions about how to renew your membership and attend the AGM (or anything else – I love hearing from you!) I can even pick you up (if you live in Saskatoon) or arrange a ride for you.

SGP 2026 Annual General Meeting - Sat. May 30

Share your opinion on the future of the Saskatchewan Green Party!

Save the date and join us for our annual general meeting (AGM)
on Saturday, May 30,
from 10:30 am to 4:30 pm

Face-to-face interaction helps build trust, reduce misunderstandings, and strengthen our shared commitment. We’d love to see you in Saskatoon!

Members in good standing can vote at the party's AGM. If your membership needs to be renewed this year, annual memberships are $5 and can be e-transferred to [email protected] or through this link:  https://www.saskgreen.ca/become_a_member

To enhance the social aspects of 'Being Green,' this year's AGM will start with a potluck. Bring a dish, meet new (or old) friends. Be Welcome.

As time permits after the AGM Proper, we are planning a roundtable discussion on the 2024 Platform. Bring your ideas and help us craft a Green Future for all.
Here is a link to the 2024 Platform.

Additional information about the AGM has been emailed in separate messages. If you have not received an AGM email in the past few weeks and would like to, contact [email protected]

Prime Minister Mark Carney wants to end the independent assessment of nuclear projects and hand over this responsibility to the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission.

On Friday, May 8th, the federal government unleashed a discussion paper outlining the next rush to dismantle what remains of environmental assessment (now “impact” assessment following the last set of rollbacks). It will hit nuclear projects particularly hard, putting the review process in the hands of the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission.

The deadline for comment is June 7th, and it's expected that new legislation will follow quickly. Speak up today. Act now.

Experts say Sask.'s coal power plan not compatible with national strategy

The Saskatoon Star Phoenix, May 16, 2026 - Two Saskatchewan experts are raising questions about Premier Scott Moe’s claims that extending the lifespan of coal plants will be the best investment for the province, rather than moving toward gas plants and renewables.

It comes as Ottawa has announced a new National Electricity Strategy that aims to double the capacity of Canada’s grid by 2050. The extension of coal plants remained a hot topic on the last day of Saskatchewan’s spring legislature sitting on Thursday.

Saskatchewan is open to industrial carbon tax talks with Ottawa, Moe says

CTV News, May 21, 2026 - Saskatchewan’s premier says his province is open to discussing the prospect of an industrial carbon tax with the federal government.

Speaking with reporters at an event on Wednesday, Premier Scott Moe proudly proclaimed Saskatchewan to be “carbon tax free.” However, on the topic of an industrial price on carbon, he noted that regulatory certainty across Canada is good for both provinces and the nation as a whole.

“Some degree of regulatory certainty across this nation is good for us as Canadians, and it’s good ultimately for our industries in the province as well,” Moe said.

Now What? With Carbon Pricing Eroded and Pipeline Politics Advancing, Here Are the Pathways for Climate Success

The Energy mix Weekender, May 16, 2026 - At the end of a whirlwind week of news on carbon pricing and electricity strategy, capping a madcap year of pretty much non-stop, dramatic change, the word across much of Canada’s climate and energy transition community is that climate policy in this country has been shredded.

Eviscerated.

Hit with a sledgehammer by policy rollbacks that have pushed the country’s 2050 net zero target “well out of reach”.

That means it’s never been more important to look for the rays of hope and glimmers of possibility. To glimpse the seeds of the next set of strategies to get Canada’s climate pollution under control and the country into the accelerating global dash away from fossil fuels.

And then, once we’ve spotted those possibilities, get on with the hard, day-to-day slog of trying to make them a reality.

Moose Jaw eyes hydrogen future with Max Power deal

Moose Jaw Today, May 19, 2026  - A Saskatchewan discovery that could launch an entirely new clean-energy industry is now putting Moose Jaw at the centre of ambitious economic development plans.

The City of Moose Jaw has signed a memorandum of understanding with Max Power Mining, which is investing in the development of naturally occurring hydrogen and helium.

“A discovery in Saskatchewan could lead to a brand-new industry,” said Chad Levesque, investor relations representative for Max Power Mining. “Saskatchewan has a legacy of industrial development in gases."

According to Levesque, the industrial corridor between Regina and Moose Jaw can play a vital role in moving the molecule to market. Max Power sees Moose Jaw as the foundation of the project.

By Tyee Reporter Charles Rusnell April 21, 2026 - Rusnell begins, “A network of 20 inauthentic YouTube accounts has racked up nearly 40 million views by peddling lies, grievance, division and narratives normalizing the prospect of Alberta’s secession and annexation by the United States.”

Nation‑Building or Corporate Welfare? Mark Carney’s AI Data Centre Gamble

Our Sask Blog Post by Tammy Robert, May 22, 2026 - Canadians aren’t clamouring for AI server farms beside their communities, but Ottawa is building them a red‑carpet approvals process. Why has the Government of Canada built a state‑of‑the‑art conveyor belt for AI data centre approvals and subsidies, when virtually no Canadians want them near their community?

If Anyone Builds It, Everyone Dies

By SGP Member Nancy Carswell, April 27, 2026 - Remember when Google pledged “Don’t be evil”? Today’s profit-driven algorithms amplify harm we barely understand.
