Louis Riel may have been a martyr but the people on the jury of that day thought otherwise. We do not have access to first hand accounts and should not rely on the hearsay of this time. Basically there is no way to prove or unprove certain facts. I do not think this is an appropriate resolution.

Speaking as chair of the Resolutions Committee, this is one of the resolutions carried forward from 2008, due to inadequate notice for that Convention.  Such motions need to have a mover and seconder before they can be put before Convention.  The identity of this resolution's mover has been lost.  So, it's quite possible this resolution will not actually be put to a vote at Convention.

Speaking personally, I agree with ihbrays and greenally that the motion has some problems.  I find it contentious, and don't understand why we would divert attention from core issues by passing such a resolution, even if many of us do happen to sympathize with Riel's cause.
