WHEREAS reducing car ownership will help to reduce the number of cars on the road and the resulting pollution helping to meet our Kyoto goals;
BE IT RESOLVED THAT the GPS will press the provincial government to:
- officially recognize the key role of car-ownership in car-dependency, sprawl, and climate change, and develop programs to get the citizens of Saskatchewan to shift to various shared access alternatives.
- work with the four basic shared-car-access industries (taxis, car-rental, ride sharing, and car sharing) to help them grow and to work seamlessly together to allow Canadians to see them collectively as an alternative to ownership
Ahh, Taxis. During the
Ahh, Taxis. During the evening, many city busses carry less than a taxi-load of people. Those services should be integrated. If a dozen people do show up at a bus stop, a taxi company can cover it within the usual schedule slop on a bus.
We could establish electronic bulletin boards for ride sharing. Another easy change would be to let used car dealers rent their stock.
